Sustainability & Environment Lead

Mike Buttenham is the Sustainability and Environment Lead for Grain Farmers of Ontario.  Mike grew up in Rockwood, ON in Wellington County and attended the University of Waterloo, earning an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Geography and Environmental Management.

Within his role as Sustainability and Environment Lead, Mike leads the development of  Grain Farmers of Ontario’s sustainability initiatives and works with supply chain partners to develop win-win solutions for sustainable agriculture requirements.  He actively participates in industry working groups locally but also internationally.  Currently, Mike sits on the Field to Market Canada Board of Directors providing strategic leadership to the Field to Market organization and membership navigating key environmental topics like carbon sequestration, soil health and regenerative agriculture.

He is also responsible for helping farm members and value chain partners understand the complexity of environmental factors around grain production and sustainability.
